  1. The approval of the bride
  2. The applicant’s Emirates ID
  3. Valid passports of the applicants

  6. Both bride and the groom must have a positive health screening certificate issued by one of the government approved clinics in the UAE certifying that they are fit to marry and do not have any serious health issues. This limits the risk of spreading a communicable disease and is mandatory while applying for marriage.

The Muslim expats who wish to get married in the UAE must fulfil the following requirements-

  1. The bride and groom must be over 18 years of age. In case they are under 18 years of age, special approval from the judge must be presented.
  2. A spouse cannot be double the age of the other unless the judge has approved the same.
  3. The couple must be physically present at the time of the marriage.
  4. The bride’s father must be physically present at the ceremony. In case he cannot be there due to any medical grounds or whatsoever reason, he must designate his proxy to attend the wedding.
  5. Two Muslim witnesses who are male and over 18 years of age should also be present.
  6. A Muslim woman is not allowed to marry without the consent of her parents or legal guardians.
  7. If the father of the bride is no more, her closest relative (either brother or uncle) must be present at the wedding.
  8. In case a Muslim bride has a non-Muslim father, she must obtain a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the embassy in the UAE.

For the wedding to be declared as a legal one, the marriage contract must be registered with the Sharia courts in the UAE. The Muslim expats are allowed to have up to 4 wives until they can demonstrate that they treat them equally in all respects.

Marriage requirements for non-Muslim tourists in Dubai

The non-Muslim expats have slightly different requirements when it comes to getting married in the UAE. Christians for example can get married in any of the churches in the UAE and Hindus can get married in a Hindu temple in Bur Dubai. However, these ceremonies will also need to be legalized by producing proper documents in the Dubai courts. Therefore, one must consult experienced lawyers before deciding to marry in the UAE as their marriage gets legalized only when they get their marriage registered in the Dubai courts.

All expats who wish to get their marriage registered in the UAE courts must fulfill the following 2 conditions-

  1. Both applicants must be over 18 years of age
  2. 2 witnesses over 18 years of age should be present to witness the ceremony along with their identity proofs

Documents Required for Marriage Registration in UAE

  1. Passport copies of the bride and the groom
  2. Valid ID proofs of the witnesses
  3. The birth certificates of the couple certifying their age

There might be some more documents that might be required like an application for “intention to marry” and a health fitness certificate. This varies from case to case and hence Dubai Court Marriage can help you in knowing what exactly is needed in which situation.

Marriage requirements for Foreigners in UAE

Foreigners can tie a knot in Dubai only if either of the applicants has a residence visa. If both the bride and the groom are on a visit visa and they wish to marry, then it will not be possible.
